Date: Opened Mon-Sat: 9:00-5:00 and Sun: 10:00am-4:30pm CLOSED: New Years Day, Easter, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and December 26th

This holiday season, consider choosing a living Christmas tree—a beautiful, sustainable option that can bring joy to your home both during the festivities and in the new year. Living trees, often sold in pots, are typically a variety of conifer like Leyland Cypress, Blue Spruce, or Douglas Fir, and they can be planted in your yard after the holidays, offering lasting memories and a greener future.

When bringing a living Christmas tree indoors, keep in mind that it should not stay inside for longer than 7 to 10 days. Exposure to warm indoor temperatures can stress the tree, leading to drying out and loss of moisture. To help maintain its health, consider spraying it with a product like Wilt Stop, a natural anti-transpirant that helps the tree retain moisture and prevent drying out. This will help your tree stay fresh and vibrant while it decorates your home.

After the holidays, you can transplant your living tree to your yard or garden, where it will continue to grow, providing a lasting symbol of your holiday spirit for years to come. It's a perfect way to celebrate sustainability while keeping your seasonal traditions alive!

Napa Scouts Christmas Tree Pick-Up and Recycling Day

The annual Scouts Christmas Tree Pick-Up and Recycling Day takes place on the first Saturday after New Year’s Day.

How it works:

  • Tree drop-off: Please have your tree on the curb by 9:00 AM on Saturday. Do not place it out earlier, as collection only happens on Saturday.

  • Tree preparation: Make sure your tree is free of ornaments, nails, tinsel, stands, and metal spikes, as these are contaminants.

  • Donations: A suggested $10-15 donation is appreciated (please don’t leave money on the tree). Place a check made out to “Boy Scouts of America” in an envelope at your door.

If you miss the Saturday pick-up, you can set your tree out for collection on your regular service day starting Monday. Cut trees over 8 feet in half, and note that flocked trees are not recyclable and must be thrown away.

Reminder: Wreaths, pumpkins, and other holiday greenery should go in your compost cart.

At the Napa Recycling and Composting Facility, we turn your holiday greenery into compost, mulch, or renewable energy.

Important tips:

  • Remove all ornaments, lights, and tinsel

  • Flocked trees are not recyclable and must be disposed of as trash.
