Napa Valley Language Academy (NVLA)

About the program:

Napa Valley Language Academy (NVLA) offers a Two-way Bilingual Immersion Program from Kindergarten through 5th grade, continuing at Unidos Middle School for grades 6-8. This program enables both native English and Spanish speakers to become bilingual and bi-literate while maintaining academic progress. NVLA's mission focuses on creating a supportive environment where students develop essential academic, critical thinking, and communication skills, with a strong emphasis on second language acquisition, arts, science, and technology. Students are prepared to meet state standards, think critically, communicate effectively, and engage with their community and the world.

The Two-way Immersion model, backed by over 30 years of research, is the most effective approach for acquiring a second language while strengthening the first. From Kindergarten to 2nd grade, instruction is primarily in Spanish, gradually increasing in English each year. By 3rd grade, instruction is equally divided between Spanish and English. Students naturally learn both languages through proven techniques. NVLA graduates move to Unidos Middle School for continued Spanish instruction and can earn college credits in high school through AP Spanish courses.
